I learned so much in this class and it was fun. Thank you Lori for all of your help! I was amazed at how much I didn't know but you opened the door for me. It doesn't seem so intimidating anymore. I especially loved all the websites and the amount of information that is out there for us to use. I really like teacher tube and thinkfinity. Del.icio.us account came in very handy too
I like blogging now but it just seemed to be a time issue with two classes.I will spend some time really investigating some of the things we learned. I was happy when I explained an avitar to my husband and he didn't know what it was.(yeah)
I enjoyed going to your beautiful school and seeing how the smart board works. It was helpful to learn about different articles and websites from others in the class.
Anthony - enjoy your wedding. It will be fun. Your cruise sounds awesome
We need a baby blog for Analia and a wedding blog for Anthony when he gets back from the honeymoon. Who wants to be in charge?
Hope everyone has a great summer.See you in the Fall

This Biology class hits home for P.Amboy high schoolers
I thought it was my last but I found this article in the Star Ledger last week about blogging
A student was blogging to two teenage twins. The twins mother had cancer and so they put up a website to help them.
The twins turned ou to be an employee from NJMDNJ .The class didn't know it. The blog is a series being tested in schools throughout the state that combines traditional science teaching with the tangible effects of cancer. The unique class was devised last summer by the Center for School and Community Health Education at the UMDNJ Cancer Institute. It was funded by $350,000 in grants that focus on breast cancer research.

Who will Rule the Internet? by Josh Quittner

Apple , Google and Facebook want to build the next great platform. Their philosophies differ. Who will win?
Google - "Open" web and pushes for open standards and alliances among developers
Facebook - with 70 million users offers a more controlled experience
Apple- highly controlled Apple hardware at the end and software and services in the middle like the I Tunes Music store in between

Gradebooks
It was interesting to see the many options a teacher has when setting up a gradebook. I do not have any experience in this area and I am amazed at the different features that these programs have to offer.
I looked at the various Gradebooks avaiable such as mygradebook.com,trackmygrades.comthinkwave.comandclssbuilder.com. They all seem to have the common features of generating reports, giving the parents and administrators access, keeping track of attendance and listing upcoming assignments.
From what I saw I think I like mygradebbook and classbuilder the best. Classbuilder gives the option to create a web page and aslo has a Quizmaker to create tests and assessments . Thinkwave has lesson plans which I liked also.
If possible, I might like to keep everything written in a gradebook at first in addition to using the computer until I feel more comfortable. It is a lot of information
I apprecitate Anthony showing me his grading system

Article - Video on demand makes class lectur an instant rewind
Great article in the Star Ledger on June 9th. In the Seton Hall graduate business class the classroom is equipped with a "lecture capture' system. It has multiple cameras mounted on the wall to record the professors lecture. A computer captures everthing he writes on the electronic tablet he uses If a student misses a class they can go on their computer to watch the video on demand. They can fast forward and replay
Echo360 is installed in classrooms on 250 college campuses. Cost $10,000 and thousands more for licensing and equipment to record and post lectures. NJ has Rutgers, Bergen Community College, County College of Morris, and UMDNJ
They feel in 10 years when costs go down more colleges and K-12 will have in classroom

Computer games as liberal arts?
This was an interesting article.Educators are teaching kids to make their own video games using writing, storytelling, math and science. This method would help teenagers incorporate media and I think this might be a good approach to reach different types of learners. Any thoughts?
Weather Bug
I just found an interesting article in the Asbury Park Press called Weather forcast: Learning ahead I will bring copies in on Monday.
A third grade class had a conference call with a Weatherbug meterologist and pupils in 17 other states . Their topic was tornadoes. The tracking station was made possible through a partnership withMonmouth University and W Long Branch Foundation for Public Ed that has been in place for a year.

Technology
I am fascinated by all the information that we discussed on Wednesday. I liked the websites that Lori went over. Tina had a very creative and cute site for 1st grade.
I would like to spend more time on Ms. De Santis blog. Blabbersize was really cool with the talking mouth.
Creating a lesson plan on the template was great.
